HVAC advertising ideas: 12 video ads to film this year
By Oleh Borenko, founder of Base015 · Updated
The HVAC video ads worth filming show two things: the people who’ll come to the house, and the problem the homeowner can feel. Below are 12 ideas, each with an opening line to test and the season to run it.
All 12 fit in one full-day shoot: that’s four Ad Batches of 3 finished ads. Or split them across two half days, one before summer and one before winter.
Ads that build trust
A homeowner is deciding who to let into the house. These four ads answer that before the phone rings.
- The technician introduction. One of your technicians, in uniform, says who they are and what they check first on a call. Opening line: “I’m the one who’ll show up when your AC quits.”
- Why the company exists. The owner, on site, in under 30 seconds: how long you’ve served the area and what you won’t do (upsell, leave a mess, miss a window). Opening line: “We started this company because…”
- The crew arriving. Branded vans, boots covered at the door, drop cloths down. A timelapse of an install day works well here. Opening line: “Here’s what an install day looks like at your house.”
- What happens on a service call. A technician walks through a real call: what they look at, what they tell the homeowner, what it costs to fix versus replace. Opening line: “What we check in the first ten minutes.”
Ads that name the problem
Most HVAC calls start with something the homeowner can feel. The first line names it; the technician explains it.
- The room that never cools. Opening line: “Is one room in your house always hotter than the rest?” Run it in early summer.
- The upstairs bedroom. A mini split for the room the central system can’t reach. Opening line: “Why your upstairs bedroom never cools down.”
- The AC that runs all day. Dirty coils, low refrigerant, a unit that’s too small: the technician shows how they tell. Opening line: “Your AC runs all day and the house is still warm. Here’s why.”
- The furnace warning signs. Strange noises, short cycling, a rising bill. Opening line: “Three signs your furnace won’t make it through another winter.” Run it in the fall.
Ads that show the result
- Before and after. The old unit out, the new one in; the rattling window unit replaced by a quiet mini split. No voice-over needed.
- A customer on camera. A real customer, with their permission, saying in their own words why they called you and how the job went. Never script their words, and never film someone who wasn’t a customer.
- The install, start to finish. A condenser going in, line sets run neatly, a head level on the wall, cut to under a minute. Opening line: “What a mini split install actually looks like, start to finish.”
- Your real offer. The maintenance plan, financing or rebate you actually offer, explained by a technician. Only mention offers you have, with the terms you’d put in writing.
When to run each one
- Spring (March to May): tune-up ads and the service-call walkthrough.
- Summer (June to September): the hot room, the upstairs bedroom, the AC that runs all day, before and after.
- Fall (October and November): furnace warning signs and heat pump installs.
- Winter (December to February): heating repair and replacement, the technician introduction.
Trust ads (1 to 4) and customer stories run all year. Film each seasonal ad a few weeks before its season so it’s ready when the calls start. More on what to film each season is on our HVAC video ads page.
How to film them
- Your technicians don’t need to be actors. Keep each line short, film several takes, and coach on the day. Homeowners want the person who’ll show up, not a presenter.
- Film around real work. Talking-head shots before or after a real install, with B-roll of the job itself.
- Vertical first. Shoot for phones (9:16), with captions on, because most people watch with the sound off.
- Plan the day. A half-day shoot ($600) covers one Ad Batch of 3 ads; a full day ($1,000) covers more scripts and locations. Every Ad Batch is $900. See all prices.
Where to run them: short vertical ads fit Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, and the same videos work on your Google Business Profile and website. We make the ads; you or your ad manager run them.
What a Sacramento HVAC company filmed
Mini Split Experts started with a first batch of five ads, then came back for new shoots to keep their ads fresh. Across several shoots we made more than fifteen talking-head ads at job sites, offices and active installs, mixing technicians on camera with B-roll, timelapses and before-and-after moments.
